The Context Window

A small, private Discord server for friends who are actually using AI tools in their daily work, not just talking about them. Then a weekly meetup on top of it.

What we did: Eight weeks of Thursday meetups. A group of us jammed on what we were each learning across open source tooling, Claude and the coworking-style agent setups, home servers, and privacy. A real slice of the group runs their own rigs, which means they own their security instead of renting it. Those were the best conversations in the room.

What I got out of it: a lot. I connected with people I would never have met otherwise and learned more in eight weeks than I would have alone in six months.

Why we stopped meeting. Around week eight I noticed the thing that had felt exciting had become normal. What I was doing was no longer unusual enough to be broadly useful, and what I was learning had gotten specific enough that it was not generalizable either. That is a good problem to have. It also means the weekly meetup had finished its job.

Where it landed: the server is still up and I still post in it when I find something worth sharing. Thursdays got reallocated to pickleball, which is a fair trade.

The thing I would tell anyone starting one: a community that ends on purpose is a success, not a failure. Most of them just quietly rot instead.
